Krithik Reddy is a brave 11-months-old boy and the only child of his loving parents. Unfortunately, he got affected with chronic liver disease due to Alagille Syndrome, and despite the Kasai procedure being planned to address biliary obstruction, his health has taken a critical turn. The child is currently suffering from severe decompensations, including jaundice and coagulopathy, leaving Krithik Reddy’s health in critical condition and his parents in financial crisis.

Now Doctors have suggested Liver Transplant to save Krithik Reddy as soon as possible. However, the cost of the procedure is over 20 Lakh, an amount that is beyond his family’s affordability. In these difficult times, they are relying their hopes on the kindness of people like you.

My name is Deepak Reddy, and I am reaching out to you with a heavy heart to raise funds for my 11-month-old son, Krithik Reddy, who urgently needs a liver transplant to survive. My son, Krithik Reddy is suffering from chronic liver disease due to Alagille syndrome , which is a very rare genetic disorder that causes liver disease by reducing bile ducts, leading to bile buildup, liver damage, and potentially liver failure, which, if left untreated can lead to mortality. Despite the Kasai procedure being planned, the child's health condition is rapidly deteriorating. The process has already drained a massive sum of finances. Now doctors have suggested liver Transplantation, the only option to save my 11-month-old child.

As per the requirement of the liver donation and being the immediate donor, I have been assessed and eligible to donate the portion of my liver. Fortunately, the need to get the donor has been fulfilled, but to undergo the transplantation procedure, the required financial expenditure is enormous. Being a security guard, I cannot arrange the necessary funds to save my child.

The treatment costs us Rs 20 lakh more, and we need funds to continue the treatment and save my son's life. We are unable to pay the required amount as we cannot afford this huge amount. Please, I humbly ask for your support in this critical time

Hyderabad (India) – India’s 1st The International Symposium on Paediatric Liver Disease and Liver Transplant drew global experts in liver disease and liver transplant to Hyderabad. The symposium aimed to debate and exchange information on the most recent advancements in the treatment of paediatric liver disease and liver transplantation.

Estimates place the prevalence of liver disease in India at 10% of the population. The prevalence of liver disease in children is increasing, so as the demand for liver transplants in paediatrics. Over 5,000 children in India require liver transplants each year, according to the Indian Society of Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition (ISPGHAN). Despite having a huge number, only a small percentage of them are fortunate to have access to qualitative treatment due to the scarcity of resources and donor organs.

The Liver Pancreas Foundation of Hyderabad, in collaboration with the Liver Transplantation Society of India (LTSI) , the Indian Society of Gastroenterology Telangana Chapter, Hyderabad (TSISG) , the Pediatric Academy of Telangana State (PATS) , Osmania General Hospital (OGH), Hyderabad, Telangana , Gandhi Hospital, Hyderabad, Telangana and PACE Hospitals, Hyderabad , organised the symposium to address the growing incidence of liver disease in children and to improve the diagnosis, treatment, and management of the condition.

A Message from Veteran Liver Disease Specialists | Liver Transplant Surgeons

In the words of Dr. Phani Krishna Ravula, a Surgical Gastroenterologist and Liver Transplant Surgeon , the symposium covered a wide range of topics relevant to paediatric liver disease and liver transplantation, including viral hepatitis, metabolic liver diseases, acute liver failure, liver tumours and liver transplantation. Eminent national and international experts shared their experiences during the sessions, including Dr. Shiv Kumar Sarin, Dr. Mohamed Rela, Dr. Subhash Gupta, Dr. Neelam Mohan, Dr. Amit Maydeo, Dr. Parijat Ram Tripathi, Dr. Anil Dhavan, Dr. Mario Kasahara, Dr. CH Madhusudan, Dr. Veereshwar Bhatnagar, and Dr. Ashish Bavdekar.

In the verdict of Dr. CH Madhusudan, Senior Consultant Surgical Gastroenterologist, Adult and Pediatric Liver Transplant Surgeon, Osmania Medical College , had articulated about the challenges of paediatric liver transplant in India. He stressed the significance of early identification and prompt referral to specialised centres for the treatment of liver disease in children, in addition to the necessity for increased public awareness and education on pediatric liver diseases.

In addition, he added, the symposium offered a platform for young researchers in the field of the liver to showcase their work through oral presentations. The presentation of several research findings on various aspects of paediatric liver disease and liver transplantation highlighted the current trends and challenges in the field.

Dr. Subhash Gupta spoke about his work experience with paediatric liver transplants in children with end-stage liver disease. To assure the best outcomes for children, he stressed the significance of picking the right donor, providing follow-up or post-transplant care, and ensuring proper surgical technique.

The future of paediatric liver disease and liver transplants in India was the subject of a panel discussion. To address the growing burden of liver disease in children, the experts signified the need for more investment in research and infrastructure as well as a coordinated strategy involving healthcare providers, governing bodies, and patient groups.

Dr. Govind Verma, Interventional Gastroenterologist, Transplant Hepatologist, Pancreatologist and Endosonologist , presided over the salutations and recapitulated that the International Symposium on Pediatric Liver Disease and Liver Transplant - PLDT was a pivotal event toward enhancing the treatment, diagnosis, and management of paediatric liver illnesses in India. The symposium gave global professionals a forum to exchange knowledge and insights while preparing for the future of pediatric liver disease and liver transplantation in India. He envisaged that more children in India would have access to life-saving liver transplant surgeries with increased awareness, education, and investment in research and infrastructure.

The guest of honour in the Inauguration Ceremony, Mr. Rajeev Nannapaneni, Vice Chairman and CEO of Natco Pharma, expressed his hope that occasions like PLDT would boost the fight against paediatric liver diseases and transplants. He assured the provision of his continued support for more such initiatives.

Encouragement and Felicitation to End-Stage Liver disease warriors from the Hands of Young Achievers and Youth Icon

On the occasion of Children's Day, 14 Nov 2022 Liver Pancreas Foundation of Hyderabad organized a Pediatric Liver Transplantation Awareness Program and launched a 24x7 emergency liver helpline for children with liver diseases. The Program was conducted by the Liver Pancreas Foundation of Hyderabad, felicitating more than 25 Pediatric Liver Transplant patients who were gifted with two months of free expensive immunosuppressant medication and also bicycles, encouraging them to have an active lifestyle.

Actor and Producer Shri Vijay Devarakonda and an Indian Mountaineer, Ms. Malavath Purna, were the chief guest at the function. Shri Vijay Devarakonda had words of encouragement for the children who have successfully overcome a serious, major liver disease. And distributed the gifts and spent some time with the children. Then, Ms. Malavath Purna inaugurated a 24x7 liver helpline to help children with pediatric liver diseases.

Dr. CH. Madhusudhan, Prof. & Head - Dept. of Surgical Gastroenterology & Liver Transplantation, Osmania Medical College , said that " Pediatric liver disease with early and better investigations and more awareness periodically can aid in effective treatment . Many of these patients, if they are given an opportunity and undergo liver transplantation at the right time, can lead a completely healthy normal life like others. Many parents feel that they can go for a new child, but many times they do generate the subsequent children may also have pediatric liver disease. Funds are a major problem, but with the current crowdfunding and all that, a lot of patients from the low poor and lower middle class are undergoing liver transplantation. Also, long-term survival in these patients is excellent."

Then Dr. Phani Krishna Ravula, Liver Transplant Surgeon , said that "Once a successful liver transplant happens, they can have a normal long lifestyle. Obviously, somebody has to donate the liver when they're going ahead with Pediatric Liver Transplant . Many times parents come forward, and usually, it's a small part of the liver that's taken and safe to donate liver in pediatric patients. People who donate their liver don't need any future checkups or future medication. They can lead normal lives after donation.

Dr. Govind Verma, Hepatologist , has said that many times children, when getting jaundice, parents get panicked and rush to get some kind of non-allopathic medication which leads to liver failure.

Timely advice is very important for these patients. In view of that, he added the launch of a 24x7 free emergency liver helpline which will be directly connected to pediatric liver specialists, hepatologists and liver transplant specialists to get advice for any diagnosed liver disease and disorders .
